Case study 04Concept2026
Northgate Heating & Air
Northgate is invented. It stands in for the typical local trades website: a stock-photo slider, several phone numbers and a contact form nobody wants to fill in. I rebuilt it for someone standing in a cold house.

01
The problem
Typical problems on local trades websites.
- Three phone numbers and no clear one.Visitors on a phone have to decide which to call, or give up.
- A slider of stock photos. It takes the first screen and says nothing about whether the company can come today.
- A contact form with twelve fields.Someone with a broken furnace does not want to fill in twelve fields.
- Hard to read on a phone.Tiny type and links too close together for a thumb.
02
The strategy
- Answer the real questionThe first screen says what the company does, where, and that someone can usually come the same day.
- Always one tap from a callA tap-to-call button stays within reach of the thumb on every screen.
- Three steps, not twelve fieldsWhat is wrong, your postal code, your number. Then the company calls back.
- Calm, warm lookDeep green and cream, with one confident action colour. It feels like a local company you can trust, not a lead-gen template.
03
The transformation
Drag across the picture to compare. The new version was designed on a phone first.

The details

Furnace down? Tell us what is happening and we will call you back.
Type
Bricolage Grotesque 700
IBM Plex Mono
A friendly grotesque with some character, set large and tight. It sounds like a person, not a call centre.
- Pine#10332B
- Cream#F4EFE4
- Call green#1FA463
- Sand#E8DFCB
A single column that grows into two, with generous spacing and 48 px minimum tap targets.

A three-step quote
Choose what is wrong, enter a postal code, leave a number. Each step is one screen with one question.
On a phone
Built here first. The sticky call bar, the quote steps and the type sizes were all designed for a phone, then scaled up.
05
The result
This is a fictional company, so there are no business results. These are facts about the demo.
What I would measure after launch
- More calls and callback requests from phones
- Fewer abandoned forms
- More same-day jobs booked
